We are pleased to announce our partnership with surge on World Water Day 2022 for the 3rd consecutive year. We plan to celebrate water and raise awareness of 2 billion people living without access to safe water, hygiene education, and sanitary infrastructure.
We have been partnering with surge since 2020 to support at-risk communities. This year as part of our CSR initiative, we will continue giving our support to Surge’s Safe Water and sanitation programs.
As a result of our joint initiative last year, we successfully provided hygiene education and sanitary infrastructure to 2,003 people across 43 communities in Haiti and Uganda. Our efforts empowered these communities and prevented potential water and hygiene related diseases.
Globally, more than 1.7 billion people lack access to a toilet, 46% of the world population do not have access to safely managed sanitation, and 1 in 10 people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water.
This is a direct contributor to the hospitalization of over 220 million people who contracted diseases from contaminated water sources and the death of nearly 1 million people each year from easily preventable water, sanitation, and hygiene-related diseases.
Together with Surge for Water, we aim to deliver impactful solutions through sustainable designs. The severity of the global water crisis highlights the importance of grassroots, long-term action.
“We’re grateful to all partners for giving back to global communities and for raising awareness of the global water crisis. These partnerships will fund critical work in the field and encourage other supporters to become more involved with Surge’s mission. These companies help reinforce that hand-in-hand; we can create a happier world.”
-Marita Peters, Surge For Water Middle East Executive Director.
As of yet, Surge for Water’s solutions has impacted more than 1,000,000 people in 12 countries. We hope that we can enable the development of these communities by helping them obtain the necessary sanitary infrastructure, hygiene education, and clean water they need.
“We believe in giving back to the community in ways designed to create a positive impact and real change for those who need it the most,” MVP Director Jurgen E. Herre states when asked about the reason behind their company’s participation.
“We must all recognize the multifold value of water and take action to conserve this basic resource, that is not only essential to life, but also vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development,” Jurgen adds.
June and July 2022 Update
In June and July, we reached out to 399 students in these communities, and with the help of the Surge for Water team, they were trained on proper handwashing, the water cycle, and hygiene practices!
This brings us 20% closer to reaching our goal for the year!
August 2022 Update
The borehole rehabilitation at Imakioroch village was drilled in 2006 by the local government. Over time, the pipes became rusted, and the soak pit was filled with dirty water, which caused contamination at the water source.
Before borehole rehabilitation, water users walked for kilometres to other boreholes to collect water when the well broke. Community members would need to pay a certain amount at the alternative water sources to collect one jerrican of water. Additionally, the unavailability of water used to cause disputes amongst the community members apart from the various health hazards.
After the rehabilitation, Imakioroch Community’s borehole is fully functional and brings clean, safe water to the community. The water users now have access to improved health, hygiene, and sanitation.

September 2022 Update
Hygiene training was provided to 211 people in 4 Ugandan communities! This is just over 30% of our annual goal! The areas that received training last month were Kanyalam Modern Primary School, Ocoga Community, Oriamai Community, and Omarai Community.
October 2022 Update
Handwashing Regime
Hand hygiene is a simple yet effective way to prevent infections as hands are the primary means of germ transmission. On any given day, approximately one in every 31 hospital patients has at least one healthcare-associated infection. So, washing your hands is the most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of harmful germs and healthcare-associated infections.
Any infectious disease can cause a massive outbreak in remote communities in Uganda and Haiti where healthcare is unavailable. In a sustainable initiative with Surge, students were trained not only on hand washing but also on water sources, water pollution, and how to keep the water clean.
The training was provided to –
/262 people at Omarai Primary School in Uganda
/100 students at Otuboi Primary School and 111 students at Odongai Primary School
Since June, we have positively impacted 972 people in Uganda and Haiti: that’s 48% of our annual goal.
November and December 2022 Update
In the month of November and December, as the schools were closed for the term, we broadened the impact of the hygiene training program initiative to reach 385 more people across twelve different villages in Haiti and Uganda.
The communities received hygiene training, touching on many topics; from the water cycle, how water gets polluted, how to keep water sources clean to the proper hand washing.
/Communities that received a hygiene training program are Uganda – Oyomai Village, Omarai Community, Kakado Village, Ocukai Village, Aburkot Community, and Apai Community. Okile Landing Site in Uganda and Bernard, Cayes Jacmel, Modele, Petavie, and Source Salee in Haiti.
Since the initiative’s launch in June 2022, the program has impacted a total of 1,480 people – 74% of our goal!
We are on our way to creating a long-lasting positive impact for more people from at-risk communities.
January and February 2023 Update
In the month of January and February we have made a significant impact on the lives of 167 individuals across four communities in Uganda. These communities include;
Aperkira Village, Kiribati A Village, Odidip A Village, and Omodoi Community.
Since June, our collective efforts have reached an impressive total of 1,841 people, which accounts for 92% of our initial goal! Together, we are making a tangible difference in the lives of those in need.
March 2023 Update – End of 2022 Campaign
In the month of March, our efforts have surpassed expectations with a remarkable 313 students trained in Uganda, all of these students were at Katinge Primary School, and students in primary 1-5 were trained.
Our program mission is to raise the awareness about the importance of clean water and personal hygiene practices, thereby preventing the spread of diseases, this brings the total trained since June to 2,154 people – 107% of our target goal for the 2022 campaign.
